The SMC Library is your campus information hub. It connects students,
faculty and staff to information resources in all formats. The Library
collection includes over 95,000 circulating books and 6,000 reference volumes.
The Library subscribes to over 450 print periodicals and provides access
to another 2,000 in electronic format through various databases.
Collection Development
Have you seen a book you think the Library should buy? Let
us know! Part of our mission is to provide SMC students, faculty
and staff with access to information resources that support their teaching,
learning and intellectual needs. Our collection development librarian
is eager to learn what materials are relevant to your discipline.
Please drop by, call in or e-mail your collection suggestions for books,
journals, videos or instructional computer software. Call 434-3538
or e-mail Brenda Antrim at antrim_brenda@smc.edu with your suggestions.
Library Online Catalog
The online catalog permits you to see what materials are owned by the library
and whether they are currently in the library or checked out. It
also allows you to place holds on materials that are checked out (this
service is free for faculty and staff). Users can examine their own library
record online or automatically renew items they have checked out.
Faculty can check which items they have on reserve from the catalog (look
for the Reserve Desk button on screen in the online catalog). The catalog
is available on the Library website.
Remote Access to Library Databases
The Library website
is your gateway to information access.
Many Library resources are available online. The Library has
an extensive collection of subscription databases that are available to
SMC faculty and staff not just in the library, but also anywhere on campus
or from off-campus. Faculty and staff can login to the Library website
and access the full-text of over 2000 journals in full-text, as well as
five major national newspapers, an online encyclopedia, literature resources
and more.
Faculty/Staff Loan Periods
SMC faculty and staff are permitted to borrow materials from the general
collection for one semester or session. Special loans for other materials
can be arranged, please ask a Reference Librarian for assistance.
