Reference librarians schedule and conduct orientations to library resources
for individual classes, when requested to do so by SMC instructors.
Students with good library research skills do better academically.
We provide SMC students with instruction and assistance enabling them to
integrate appropriate information resources into their coursework.
The Library conducts over 200 library orientation sessions per
year. Orientations are taught in the Library’s state-of-the-art computer classroom.
Call 434-4254 or drop by the Reference Desk to set up a time for a library
orientation for your class.
Requests for orientations must be made by the instructor 48 hours or
more in advance, except for evening orientation requests.
Orientations are scheduled for requested times if the time and facilities
are available.
Instructors must accompany their classes for the orientations.
Orientations are given by librarians and not by instructors or other persons.
Orientations are generally scheduled for the Library classroom. If the classroom is
unavailable, the Library computer lab may be used.
