About the Tutorial


This independent, self-paced, and self-guided tutorial introduces Biology 21 students of Santa Monica College (SMC) to fundamental library research methods. Individual students work through the exercises, assignments, and quizzes based on the readings of the tutorial, under the direction of biology department instructors.

 

On successful completion of the tutorial, the student will be able to:

  • use basic library research techniques in both the Santa Monica College and UCLA Biomedical Libraries to locate and retrieve relevant library materials

  • distinguish between the form/format of basic research resources and their functions

  • apply the acquired research techniques to successful completion of departmental library assignments

After finishing the tutorial, the student demonstrates successful mastery of skills taught in the tutorial by completing required library research assignments to the satisfaction of biology department instructors.
