The following websites will help you with your research on
adoption:
National Adoption Information Clearinghouse
(NAIC)
"The Clearinghouse is a national resource for information on all
aspects of adoption for professionals, policy makers, and the general
public. Clearinghouse services include technical assistance to
professionals and policy makers, a library collection, publications,
databases on adoption resources, and information on Federal and State
legislation." Offers information on such sensitive topics as offering
children for adoption, access to birth records for adoptees, and access to
birth records for birth relatives.

S. State Department: International Adoption
The Bureau of Consular Affairs offers information on intercountry
adoptions. Gives updates on current adoption hotspots such as Cambodia and
Guatemala. Offers country-specific general information for American
citizens contemplating adoption of children from the countries listed,
such as availability of children, legal requirements, and adoption
procedures.

Department: International Adoption Booklet
The Booklet advises on what the St ate Department can and cannot do in
cases of international adoption. It offers guidelines on the process and
procedures; a review of the foreign adoption process; discussions of
procedures such as the visa interview, medical exams, and resolution of
questions regarding the U. S. citizenship status of the adopted
child.

Support for Independent/Open/International Adoption
Comprehensive information on many approaches to adoption, such as use
of lawyers or agencies; intercountry adoptions; and special needs/"waiting
children" adoptions.

Library Databases relevant to
adoption
The following Santa Monica College Library online databases may contain
material relevant to adoption. Databases may include magazine,

Academic Search Premier, MasterFile Premier Academic Search Premier and MasterFile Premier provide
full text for over 6200 periodicals including full text
for more than 3,500 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage spans
virtually every area of academic study and offers information
dating as far back as 1975.
National Newspapers (U.S.) Searchable index for recent issues of the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and the Christian Science Monitor. Full-text for newer issues and citations for older materials. More information on coverage
Newspaper Source (Regional, National and International) Provides selected full text for 25 national (U.S.) and international newspapers. The database also contains full text television & radio news transcripts, and selected full text for more than 200 regional (U.S.) newspapers.
Health Source Health Source: Consumer Edition offers information
on many health topics
including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition,
childcare, sports medicine and general health. Has full text for
nearly 300 journals.
Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection Provides coverage of nearly 550 full text journals,
covering topics
such as emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry
& psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational
and experimental methods.
Ethnic NewsWatch News, culture and history from the newspapers,
magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native
press -- English and Spanish language.
Encyclopedia Americana Includes 45,000 articles, plus thousands of hypertext
links to web sites featuring additional data. It is updated quarterly.
Encyclopedia, Funk and Wagnalls New World Provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.
Health Source Health Source: Consumer Edition offers information
on many health topics
