high levels of literacy in English and at least one other language;
emphasis is on teaching.

Clearinghouse for English Language

Educational Programs (NCELA) Information and resources relating to
the effective education of linguistically and culturally diverse
students in the United States. NCELA was formerly the National
Clearinghouse for Bilingual Education (NCBE).
National Association for Bilingual
Education (NABE) http://www.nabe.org/policy_bilingualedinstates.asp?states=CA&Submit=View An
organization of bilingual educators that provides advice on
instructional practice and advocates for legislation, including the
Federal Bilingual Education Act. The website provides links to
articles about bilingual education in every state.
Bilingual
Education http://www.ohiou.edu/esl/project/bilingual/index.html Study
guide that includes definitions, pro-con opinions, and other
resources.
Center for
Multilingual Multicultural
Research http://www.usc.edu/dept/education/CMMR/ A
research site sponsored by USC. Under "Language Policy and Rights",
the website includes articles on the impact of bilingual education
legislation such as Proposition 227.

Library Databases relevant to bilingual education
The following Santa Monica College Library online databases may contain material
relevant to bilingual education. Databases may include magazine,
newspaper and journal articles. Off-campus users, please note: you must be a Santa
Monica College student, faculty or staff member to use these services.
Professional Development Collection Over 550 full-text journals of interest to professional educators, librarians and education researchers. Offers information on a wide variety of educational topics ranging from children's health and development to pedagogical theory and practice. This database also contains more than 200 educational reports.
ERIC ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center contains more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 980 educational and education-related journals.
Academic Search Premier, MasterFile Premier Academic Search Premier and MasterFile Premier provide
full text for over 6200 periodicals including full text
for more than 3,500 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage spans
virtually every area of academic study and offers information
dating as far back as 1975.
Ethnic NewsWatch News, culture and history from the newspapers,
magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native
press -- English and Spanish language.
Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection Provides coverage of nearly 550 full text journals,
covering topics
such as emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry
& psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational
and experimental methods.
National Newspapers (U.S.) Searchable index for recent issues of the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and the Christian Science Monitor. Full-text for newer issues and citations for older materials. More information on coverage
Newspaper Source (Regional, National and International) Provides selected full text for 25 national (U.S.) and international newspapers. The database also contains full text television & radio news transcripts, and selected full text for more than 200 regional (U.S.) newspapers.
