The following websites (in alphabetical order) will help you with your research on environment:

  • Biodiversity & Conservation
    This hypertext book was written by a biology professor from UC Irvine to be used for a biological conservation class.  Most of the links lead to outside resources.  It covers "the origin, nature and value of biological diversity, the threats to its continued existence, and approaches to preserving what is left."

  • Congressional Research Service Reports
    Searchable collection of over 1200 Congressional Research Service (CRS) reports redistributed as a service of the National Library for the Environment which is maintained by the National Council for Science and the Environment, which is supported by nearly 500 academic, scientific, environmental, and business organizations.  CRS is part of the Library of Congress, and prepares its reports for the U.S. Congress.

  • Destination earth
    The official website for NASA's Earth Science Enterprise.  Provides information research and information about the total Earth system from the vantage point of space.

  • Environment WWW Virtual Library
    This directory of environmental websites is maintained by earthsystems.org, a non-profit environmental educational organization.  The site also includes a list of lists of environmental resources.

  • Environmental Sites on the Internet
    A comprehensive directory of environmental websites developed at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.

  • Rainforestweb.org
    The World Rainforest Information Portal is a gateway to Rainforest information and resources.  Created by the Rainforest Action Network.
  • World Environment Library
    The World Environment Library 1.0 was developed in December 1999 by GTZ and the Humanity Libraries Project. It contains 400 publications (45,000 pages) of ideas and solutions in the fields of Agriculture, Biodiversity, Climate Change, Environmental Impact Assessment, Energy, Health, Natural Resources, Policy, Sustainable Development, Waste Management and Water.

  • World Wildlife Foundation Global Network
    A news and informational site by an organization whose mission is to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature."  Links to other WWF sites around the world.

Library Databases relevant to environment

Academic Search Premier, MasterFile Premier
Academic Search Premier and MasterFile Premier provide full text for over 6200 periodicals including full text for more than 3,500 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage spans virtually every area of academic study and offers information dating as far back as 1975.

National Newspapers (U.S.)
Searchable index for recent issues of the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and the Christian Science Monitor. Full-text for newer issues and citations for older materials. More information on coverage

Newspaper Source (Regional, National and International)
Provides selected full text for 25 national (U.S.) and international newspapers. The database also contains full text television & radio news transcripts, and selected full text for more than 200 regional (U.S.) newspapers.

Encyclopedia Americana
Includes 45,000 articles, plus thousands of hypertext links to web sites featuring additional data. It is updated quarterly.

Encyclopedia, Funk and Wagnalls New World
Provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.

Science Full Text Select
Coverage includes popular science magazines as well as professional journals. Also covers The New York Times Science Section. Full text coverage begins in January 1995.

JSTOR

Over 10,000 electronic books (e-books) from leading university, trade and professional publishers. Titles across all subject areas. Includes an extensive collection of e-books in the public domain, featuring classics in literature and history. (One maximum simultaneous user per book)

Philosophy and Religion Collection
Covers such topics as epistemology, political philosophy, philosophy of language, moral philosophy and the history of philosophy, world religions, biblical studies, religious history. Includes more than 300 full text journals.
