Center for Science in the Public Interest

Web site of the organization that is often in the news, most recently for their nutrition "exposes" of fast-food pizza and movie-house popcorn. They advocated for the inclusion of "nutrition facts" on labels so that consumers know more about the foods they buy. This watchdog organization offers this information about itself: "For 30 years, the Center for Science in the Public Interest has been a strong advocate for nutrition and health, food safety, alcohol policy, and sound science. Its award-winning newsletter, Nutrition Action Healthletter, is the largest-circulation newsletter in the country, providing reliable information on nutrition and health."

McDonalds: Food, Health, and Nutrition Information

McDonald's homepage offers this section that explains their goals and provides various kinds of nutritional information: "Our food is the centerpiece of everything we do. And here you will find our USA Menu Items with ingredients lists, nutritional Information, new food products and more!" In addition, the page provides data on their products' food exchanges for diabetics and those interested in weight control, and product Information for consumers with food allergies or sensitivities.

The Fast Food Nutrition Facts Explorer

This site "tracks the nutritional data presented on the websites of ten of the most popular fast food restaurant chains in the world. The result: a searchable database that is powerful, yet easy to use. Searches can return nutrition facts sorted by total calories, fat calories, percentage of calories from fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, protein or fiber." The ten restaurant chains include: Arby's, Burger King, Domino's Pizza, Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonald's, Papa John's, Pizza Hut, Subway, Taco Bell, and Wendy's.

Academic Search Premier, MasterFile Premier
Academic Search Premier and MasterFile Premier provide full text for over 6200 periodicals including full text for more than 3,500 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage spans virtually every area of academic study and offers information dating as far back as 1975.

Health Source
Health Source: Consumer Edition offers information on many health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health. Has full text for nearly 300 journals.

National Newspapers (U.S.)
Searchable index for recent issues of the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and the Christian Science Monitor. Full-text for newer issues and citations for older materials. More information on coverage

Newspaper Source (Regional, National and International)
Provides selected full text for 25 national (U.S.) and international newspapers. The database also contains full text television & radio news transcripts, and selected full text for more than 200 regional (U.S.) newspapers.

ABI/INFORM
Business news and information from more than 410 full text journals. Coverage includes all subject areas related to business.

Business Source Premier
Business Source Premier provides full text for nearly 8200 serials. Coverage includes all subject areas related to business.

Regional Business News
Regional Business News provides full text coverage for regional business publications. Includes coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States.

Ethnic NewsWatch
News, culture and history from the newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press -- English and Spanish language.

Encyclopedia Americana
Includes 45,000 articles, plus thousands of hypertext links to web sites featuring additional data. It is updated quarterly.

Encyclopedia, Funk and Wagnalls New World
Provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.

JSTOR
