The following websites (in alphabetical order) will help you with your research on
homeless:
- Homes and Communities (HUD)
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) website provides information
for and about the homeless. A search on "homelessness" in the
search/index section leads to thousands of documents from HUD and other sources.
- Institute for Research on Poverty at University
of Wisconsin, Madison
This site's "frequently asked questions about poverty" section provides data
about poverty and also links to other resources about poverty. Research findings are
also available. Searchable.
- Institute for the Study of Homelessness and
Poverty at the Weingart Center
This non-profit, non-partisan research and policy organization located in Skid Row, Los
Angeles presents research and publications focused the Los Angeles area, including:
"Just the Facts," a series of statistical and overview briefings on homelessness
and related topics, Institute sponsored research produced by local academics in response
to research requests from community based organizations and regional government agencies,
and colloquia, research presented by academics at the Institute's colloquium.
- National Coalition for the Homeless
This site includes facts about the homeless, news, legislation and policy, legislative
alerts, personal experiences of homelessness, and Internet resources. There are also
directories of national, state and local homeless advocacy coalitions (including a
link to the Los Angeles Coalition to End Homelessness),
directories of national and international homeless and housing organizations, a directory
of local homeless service organizations, a directory of state contacts for the education
of homeless children and youth, and a directory of North American Street Newspapers.

Library Databases relevant to homeless

Academic Search Premier, MasterFile Premier Academic Search Premier and MasterFile Premier provide
full text for over 6200 periodicals including full text
for more than 3,500 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage spans
virtually every area of academic study and offers information
dating as far back as 1975.
Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection Provides coverage of nearly 550 full text journals,
covering topics
such as emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry
& psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational
and experimental methods.
National Newspapers (U.S.) Searchable index for recent issues of the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and the Christian Science Monitor. Full-text for newer issues and citations for older materials. More information on coverage
Newspaper Source (Regional, National and International) Provides selected full text for 25 national (U.S.) and international newspapers. The database also contains full text television & radio news transcripts, and selected full text for more than 200 regional (U.S.) newspapers.
Health Source Health Source: Consumer Edition offers information
on many health topics
including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition,
childcare, sports medicine and general health. Has full text for
nearly 300 journals.
Encyclopedia Americana Includes 45,000 articles, plus thousands of hypertext
links to web sites featuring additional data. It is updated quarterly.
Encyclopedia, Funk and Wagnalls New World Provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.
Ethnic NewsWatch News, culture and history from the newspapers,
magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native
press -- English and Spanish language.
JSTOR Back issues of over 300 scholarly journals in a wide variety of disciplines: African American Studies, African Studies, Anthropology, Archeology, Art and Architecture, Asian Studies, Ecology, Economics, Education, Finance, Geography, History, Language & Literature, Latin American Studies, Mathematics, Music, Middle East Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Population Studies, Slavic Studies, Sociology and Statistics.
Philosophy and Religion Collection Covers such topics as epistemology, political philosophy,
philosophy of language, moral philosophy and the history of
philosophy, world religions, biblical studies,
religious history. Includes more than 300 full text journals.
RAND California An extensive database on California and its cities and counties. Includes information on California public policy issues, statistics on business, employment, population, real estate, and crime rates, school test scores and monthly reports on the California economy.
