USDA Food and Nutrition Information Center: Food Security/Hunger

The U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) presents a series of reports and studies on hunger, food security, and food insecurity. Some of the reports include topics related to children, hunger in America, nutrition, and overweight.

 Prevalence of Food Insecurity and Hunger, by State, 1996-98

This U. S. Department of Agriculture page presents statistics on a state by state basis for the two years of the study.

 Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

Homepage of the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), where researchers can obtain information on UN activities and programs aimed at addressing world food needs.

U N FAO Nutrition Country Profiles

Part of the United Nations' Food and Agriculture (FAO) services, this site presents "analytical summaries describing the food and nutrition situation in individual countries, with background statistics on food-related factors such as agricultural production, and selected economic and demographic indicators."

Health Source: Consumer Edition offers information on many health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health. Has full text for nearly 300 journals.

Academic Search Premier, MasterFile Premier
Academic Search Premier and MasterFile Premier provide full text for over 6200 periodicals including full text for more than 3,500 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage spans virtually every area of academic study and offers information dating as far back as 1975.

Ethnic NewsWatch
News, culture and history from the newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press -- English and Spanish language.

National Newspapers (U.S.)
Searchable index for recent issues of the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and the Christian Science Monitor. Full-text for newer issues and citations for older materials. More information on coverage

Provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.

Philosophy and Religion Collection
Covers such topics as epistemology, political philosophy, philosophy of language, moral philosophy and the history of philosophy, world religions, biblical studies, religious history. Includes more than 300 full text journals.

RAND California
An extensive database on California and its cities and counties. Includes information on California public policy issues, statistics on business, employment, population, real estate, and crime rates, school test scores and monthly reports on the California economy.
