Food and Beverage Industry

 This is a site of the International Trade Data System (ITDS), "a federal government information technology initiative of the National Performance Review. The goal of the initiative is to implement an integrated government-wide system for the electronic collection, use, and dissemination of international trade data. "

Found on the site are links to various food and drink organization homepages such as the Snack Food Association and the National Soft Drink Association.

Junk Food News

This tasty site features stories and newswires about the junk food industry. Beyond the entertainment value of the latest news about empty calories, this site shrewdly illustrates by example how the junk food industry promotes its product. A well-done hobby site by a professional writer.

California Food Policy Advocates

This public policy and advocacy organization is "dedicated to improving the health and well being of low-income Californians by increasing their access to nutritious and affordable food." The site features publications and data about hunger in California, the food stamp program, children's nutrition (including the National School Lunch Program), and food quality and obesity (for example, junk food sales in schools). Also includes downloadable outreach materials.

Snack Food Association (SFA)

Many of the eatables described as "junk food" fall under the alternate heading of "snacks". The SFA "is the international trade association of the snack food industry representing snack manufacturers and suppliers. Founded in 1937, SFA represents over 800 companies worldwide. SFA business membership includes, but is not limited to, manufacturers of potato chips, tortilla chips, cereal snacks, pretzels, popcorn, cheese snacks, snack crackers, meat snacks, pork rinds, snack nuts, party mix, corn snacks, pellet snacks, fruit snacks, snackbars, granola, snack cakes, cookies and various other snacks."

This site also offers access to its newsletter, a timeline "History of Snacks", and a collection of snack recipes!

The Food and Nutrition Center of the U. S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Library offers this discussion of Americans' nutritional needs, and the role of snacks and snacking.

Health Source: Consumer Edition offers information on many health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health. Has full text for nearly 300 journals.

National Newspapers (U.S.)
Searchable index for recent issues of the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and the Christian Science Monitor. Full-text for newer issues and citations for older materials. More information on coverage
