and the Internet: Cornell
University
Cornell's School of Industrial and Labor Relations
offers this useful web site. A principal purpose is to help orient/educate
labor unions to using the Internet for union purposes, but some of the
byproducts of the site can be very useful to academic researchers also.
There are sections of the site that give connections to other appropriate
web pages, such as: Cost
of Living links that include the Consumer Price Index and comparisons
of cities in the U. S.; Government
Sites with links to such pages as the U. S. Department of Labor and
the Bureau of the Census; and National
Unions, giving links to official pages of unions such as the United
Auto Workers, AFL-CIO, and many others.
United
Farm Workers (UFW)
Web site of the union formed by Cesar Chavez for
benefit of agricultural workers. Contains much information on the history
of the union and on its famous founder, Cesar
Chavez , as well as background on other luminaries such as Dolores
Huerta. There are news updates, articles, and union
information, some in Spanish as well as English.
African-American
Labor History Links
A site of the American Federation of State, County,
and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) which gives news articles and other
information, including links to Internet sites related to the history of
black labor unions and movements in the United States. Includes prominent
names related to labor and/or African-American history, such as A. Philip
Randolph and Martin Luther King, Jr.
Women's
Labor History
Another AFSCME site detailing the participation of
women in the labor movement. Contains links to women's union official
pages and to information on important figures in the history, such as
Mother Jones and Jane Addams.

ABI/INFORM Business news and information from more than 410 full text journals.
Coverage includes all subject areas related to business.
Business Source Premier Business Source Premier provides full text for nearly 8200 serials.
Coverage includes all subject areas related to business.
Regional Business News Regional Business News provides full text coverage for
regional business publications. Includes coverage of 75 business
journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and
rural areas within the United States.
Academic Search Premier, MasterFile Premier Academic Search Premier and MasterFile Premier provide
full text for over 6200 periodicals including full text
for more than 3,500 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage spans
virtually every area of academic study and offers information
dating as far back as 1975.
National Newspapers (U.S.) Searchable index for recent issues of the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and the Christian Science Monitor. Full-text for newer issues and citations for older materials. More information on coverage
Newspaper Source (Regional, National and International) Provides selected full text for 25 national (U.S.) and international newspapers. The database also contains full text television & radio news transcripts, and selected full text for more than 200 regional (U.S.) newspapers.
Ethnic NewsWatch News, culture and history from the newspapers,
magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native
press -- English and Spanish language.
Encyclopedia Americana Includes 45,000 articles, plus thousands of hypertext
links to web sites featuring additional data. It is updated quarterly.
Encyclopedia, Funk and Wagnalls New World Provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.
